Online Teaching Certification

The Online Teaching Certification (OTC) is designed for faculty members who wish to develop and teach courses online or in a hybrid format. The training emphasizes best practices in pedagogy and standards for the online learning environment. It introduces tools for building, facilitating, and assessing online instruction, using the Canvas learning management system (LMS) as the primary delivery platform. This program will help faculty become proficient with the technical aspects of the course platform, as well as develop a solid understanding of effective teaching techniques that foster a successful online classroom environment.

The Instructional Innovation Center/Distance Learning Office (IIC/DLC) is available to assist any faculty member who is seeking guidance from an Instructional Designer. The Online Teaching Certificate (OTC) process is specifically designed for faculty who want to begin designing and teaching online, using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). For more information about the OTC process, please review the NLC-Course Certification Process document.

The OTC will begin:

  • Fall: 2nd week of September
  • Summer: 2nd week of June
  • Spring: 2nd week of February

To get started, please complete the OTC Application form and send it to the IIC/DLC at nlc-dlc@alamo.edu.
